Foliage Follow-Up

I missed the boat on Bloomday this month having spent most of the day on the interstate motoring back from the fabulous Garden Bloggers Fling Portland. So, I will instead participate in Foliage Follow-Up over yonder at Pams' ...check it out !

 I'm smitten with Artemsia ludoviciana 'Valerie Finnis' , and hope she will not display any of the thuggish ways of some others in the genus.So far she is comporting herself with decorum. Look at those lovely felty silver leaves ..and she seems unphased by our hot drought-y summers.



She lives with Trachelium 'Hamer Pandora" and my un-named Sanguisorba--a pink flowered seedling from Far Reaches Farm..

    Nice work to keep trachelium going into July. Even with fall planting it was looking miserable in full sun in June. Valerie Finnis has that reputation for thuggery but never was a problem here. And glad you're home safe too!

      Trachelium season is now here Denise. I will cut back and get another go in August, and a third in fall if the weather holds up. Glad to hear that Valerie has behaved for you..I'm hopeful !

Those who know me well are aware that I am somewhat child-phobic. Cramscape Admiration -Garden Fling 2024

 I admit I love a well done cramscape and the Berk-Kessler garden in Seattle is a great addition to my Cramscape Hall of Fame. In case you are wondering about previous entries to the CHOF , well there aren't any because I have only recently (i.e. yesterday) invented it. I fancy myself to be a cramscaper but have come to the realization in the last year that I am a Cramscape Imposter particularly when it comes to the edges of my garden. The Berk Kessler garden exposed my tepid attempts at packing the plants in. It wasn't long after returning from Puget Sound Fling that I started acquiring, dividing, and moving plants to correct my cramscape failures. Lets take a look at what inspired me in this abundant PNW garden.    I've visited a fair number of gardens public and private in the US.  In Ginny Davises' garden plants are incidental, providing calm green relief from the the color blast . Nothing is subdued here-starting with the house .    Not sure I've seen so many cool birdhouses in one place .. A very restrained vignette. Heading up the stairs.
