Cootamundra Wattle

An instance where the common name is almost longer and more complicated than the scientific, I can't say I've ever heard anyone apply this moniker to Acacia baileyana. Now blooming here in the valley  these Acacias flaunt themselves on roadsides and the edges of vineyards , and are only maligned by those unfortunate souls who suffer the plague of allergies.

  1. Wow, and just yesterday I was reciting the name of the Hawaiian state fish I just learned: humuhumunukunukuapuaa. I've got a little Bailey's acacia in a pot, the variety 'purpurea,' but I rarely see them local. Must be quite a sight to see them in bloom. Hachoo!

  2. Lovely photo. This is the second Californian blog I've come across featuring wattle, I didn't realise they were quite so well known over there.
