Garden Art

This past weekend was the last for the 2011 sculpture installation at The Ruth Bancroft Garden. Business commitments and personal travel disrupted my summer schedule and it was dumb luck that I looked up the dates and found that I needed to amend my weekend plans to include a journey to the east bay.
Perfect weather, with a bit of overcast to facilitate decent images, and the crowds tended to be clumped into groups-it was easy to wait for them to move on . People photos weren't in the plan.

This blooming Agave was beginning it's decline- and how prettily it expires..like Camile.

Sadly, one of my favorite Agaves in the garden , a robust 'Sharkskin' is blooming. Sigh.

  1. So glad you made the trip! Wonderful images. I've passed up 'Sharkskin' agaves twice in the past couple weeks. Even for an agave it looks fearsome. Love the pompom dahlia header.

  2. Thank you for the tour.
I try to make the drive over each summer when this show is on. It is always inspiring.
    Your photos were wonderful.

  3. I love your beautiful photographs.

To be honest, for me the art does not come close to the spectacular beauty of the plants, but that's a plant-nut for you.

I try not to be sad about a blooming Agave. It's the fulfillment of promise. Easy for me to say now, but if my precious 'Joe Hoak' ever blooms, I'm sure I'll be crying my eyes out!

  4. Denise,I remember the conversation we had at Lotualand about 'redecorating the blog' ..I finally settled on this after 3 unsatisfactory attempts. My sharkskin is dinky and in a pot. I say go for it !

Thanks Hoover, I took over 200 photos there and probably half were just the plants. It is really really hard to NOT get a good photo at the Bancroft.

Michelle, thanks for coming by.Have been reading your blog for a long time.
