In areas without frost (like mine), there develops a belief that all plants should hang on year-round in some form - even the "annuals" that die off can create a sense of outrage if they don't last close to a year in the ground. And let's not discuss the shabby performance of bulbs! Maybe that's why I see so many plastic and silk flowers stuck in gardens here...
